Can i give worm medicine myself to my cat? - cat worm medicine

Indian My 8 years old cat has three thinned to four years. After seven or eight months he was fed to the worm medicine during treatment for an infection from a veterinarian. Now he is eating properly, can be more frequent than usual, but still thin as it was for the last three to four years. Is it because the worm, I should his medical Worm (ivermectin) to me, something not possible to contact my veterinarian, I can give medication to myself? Should not harmful at all for my cat?
